In the past several years, the LHSLL has put together a preseason list of potential All-State players. This list was compiled from input from coaches, observations from last season, and off-season performances. While putting together this list we have noticed that there are a lot of excellent players in Louisiana. None of the decisions were easy and we are sure many deserving players might have been left off the list. Remember that this is just a speculative process and only meant to help everyone get excited for a great season of Louisiana High School Lacrosse! Best of luck to all LHSLL member teams!! ![]()
The Scheduling Meeting for the upcoming season is being held tomorrow in Baton Rouge, LA.
On the docket includes multiple teams petitioning for membership, and update from Mid South about officials fror next year, and a vote about an expansion of the current playoff format. Be sure to follow along here and all our social media channels for updates as the League year gets closer. Preparing for 2023 League Season
Each season, countless hours are put in by numerous people around the state to make next year the best year. The 2022 LHSLL season was awesome, but we’re all hoping 2023 is even better. A few weeks ago, Teams and Executive Board members met in Lafayette to discuss the plans for the 2023 season. Below is a summary of what we’re all looking forward to next year. Districts for Postseason Honors For 2022 and beyond, we’ll subdivide Division 1 into districts for postseason honor post seasons only. What does this look like? In 2021 and 2022, with no districts, the only option for awards was 1st or 2nd Team All State. Moving forward we will subdivide the state into two separate districts with regards to individual player awards. Each sub-district will select a 1st and 2nd team. Players receiving 1st Team All District Awards will be eligible for All-State voting. Essentially, this allows more deserving players to receive recognition after a great season. Minimum Games The minimum games required for postseason play (Super 8, Final Four) has been increased from 5 League games to 7 unique League games. This will ensure we have a more accurate postseason matrix, and allow coaches and players to be more prepared for late season contests. League Year The League Year will begin on Friday, February 17th and the Final Four Championship(s) will conclude on Sunday, May 7th. Executive Board We have some changes among the League leadership ranks. Below is the Board for the 2023 Season and their Position.
Important Notes While not necessarily changes, below are some important information nuggets to take into the future.
The 2022 USA Lacrosse Honor nominees from the LHSLL and have been accepted. The following are the League recipients from this season.
All America- Matthew Broussard- Goalie- St. Thomas More Broussard capped off his senior campaign with a stellar campaign for the Cougars of St. Thomas More. The only team to play every team in the League, Broussard came up clutch in many huge games. The ultimate leader on and off the field. From Head Coach Byrnes Tatford- “It's difficult to put into words the amount of heart, dedication and passion that Matthew has had for the game of lacrosse and for our team. He is an audacious leader who commands through work ethic and relentless effort. He has been our starting goalie since his freshmen year, when he worked harder than 2 older goalies and earned his starting position. During his freshmen year, he was selected by his seniors at mid-season to serve the team as a captain for the remainder of the year. He has been successful as a goalie with 4 different defensive lineups in front of him (each year we graduated 3-4 Defensemen and an LSM). During his senior year, he had 2 sophomores and 2 freshmen playing alongside him on defense, and was still able to maintain a great 72% save percentage. He's a natural athlete and the best goalie I have seen at the high school level. Most importantly, he's a fine young man who will go on to do great things in life. He was deeply involved with our school's campus ministry program, leading and attending retreats monthly and serving as a reader and minister at weekly mass. He is hands down one of the top 3-4 lacrosse players from Louisiana this season, and I know that would be agreed upon by all of his opposing coaches. He is absolutely deserving of the All-American and All-Academic awards. All America- Hudson Brown- Defense- Catholic High School Brown, a 2021 All America selection, had another standout season, this time helping Catholic High to their first ever LHSLL Championship. From Head Coach George Hopkins- Hudson Brown is the best close defender in the state of Louisiana, and widely considered as such. No one works harder than Hudson, and he is also among the most humble players on our team. Hudson Brown consistently exhibits superior skills and techniques, possesses exceptional game sense, knowledge and decision-making, and embodies exemplary sportsmanship. All Academic- James Basco- Attack- C.E. Byrd High School
All Academic- Matthew Broussard- Goalie- C.E. Byrd High School
Bob Scott- Christian Smith- Midfield- Loyola College Prep Coach of the Year- George Hopkins- Catholic High School A bit later than we might have liked to announce, but we've finally compiled stats for all the nominees and below is the 2022 LHSLL Division 2 All State Team. Congrats to all the selections!
Last night, the LHSLL regular season came to a close. After all the games were tallied up, we have our final Power Rankings for the season, and with them our playoff picture is complete.
Ranked #1 is Catholic High out of Baton Rouge. They finish the season with a single loss and have been at the top of the rankings for weeks. Slotting in right behind them is Jesuit, who moved up the rankings after a big win against St. Thomas More earlier this week. The aforementioned Cougars come in ranked #3, and rounding out the top 4 is Byrd, who moved up to that spot after a big win over rival Captain Shreve last night. Joining them in the post season will be Newman, St. Paul's, Captain Shreve, and Brother Martin. Falling just shy of a playoff birth are Loyola, Caddo Magnet, and Renegades. The post season kicks off next Saturday, April 23 in Lafayette for the Super 8 Quarterfinals hosted by St. Thomas More at Cougar Stadium. How post season seeding works: Each Win is worth 10 points and each Loss is worth 0 points. Regardless of result, the winning percentage of each team you play gets added to your final score. At the end of the regular season, the Top 8 teams with the highest Power Rankings will attend the Super 8 Quarterfinals. It’s always tough to narrow down a list of All State players to just a few, and inevitably there are always players who don’t quite make the final selection list. But that does not mean they were not impactful players for their team, and did not make important contributions in big moments. Below is the list of the 2022 LHSLL All State Honorable Mention players.

A competitive season and excellent weekend of quarterfinal playoffs leave us with just four teams left competing for this year's championship. Information about the 2022 Allstate Sugar Bowl Final Four Championships is below. Catholic High The Bears enter Championship weekend with a nearly flawless season. One hiccup against CE Byrd is the only blemish on an otherwise stellar record. Regular season wins over all teams left standing in the postseason, Catholic enters as the favorite to win their first ever LHSLL Championship. Jesuit The defending champions Jesuit Blue Jays have been slowly and steadily getting better all season. The road to defend their title starts with a rematch against a feisty St. Thomas More team looking to avenge an earlier season loss St. Thomas More St Thomas More enters the Final Four with just two losses on the season, losses to the aforementioned Bears and Blue Jays. The Cougars might have over achieved this season by simply getting here, but they are feisty team no one wants to play this late in the year. Isidore Newman The Newman Greenies make their first trip to the Final Four this year, but it is no fluke. They have been building towards this moment for years. A senior heavy team, the next step on their title quest is overcoming an early season 1 goal defeat to Catholic. How to watch: On Friday, April 29 Catholic and Newman will face off in the first semi-final match up at 5:00 PM. Immediately following that game Jesuit and St. Thomas More will play in the second semi-final match up at 8:00 PM All games will take place at Joe Yenni Stadium in Metarie, LA. After a tough year long schedule, Jesuit's Division 2 team came out on top for the second ever Division 2 championship. Lead by Head Coach Trey Reinhardt, the Blue Jays jumped out to an early lead over Holy Cross in the Championship game and never looked back. Winning their first Division 2 title with a final score of 7-3, they were paced by Offensive MVP Attackman Adam Dalton and Defensive MVP Goalie Ben Brockhoff. Congrats Jesuit on an amazing season! It was awesome to watch you on your quest to glory. Redemption! After a loss in last years title game and three straight Final Four appearances, Catholic High School finally won their first ever LHSLL title Sunday evening taking down last year's champions Jesuit 8-2.
Led by Head Coach George Hopkins, the Bears were a force to be reckoned with from the onset of the season winning their first game 19-0 and suffering a single League defeat to a tough Byrd team in overtime. By the end of the regular season, Catholic was battle tested and ready for the playoffs. They entered as the #1 seed on the backs of a dominant defense giving up just 4 goals a game on average in League play. That defense kicked it up a notch giving up less than 3 goals per game in the postseason. In the title game, they were anchored by Offensive MVP Grant Schliewe and Defensive MVP Tommy Blanchard. Catholic proved that goliath can be slayed and are a blueprint for all other teams as they grow. Congrats Coach Hopkins and the rest of the Catholic Bears! Enjoy your title and come ready to defend in 2023. After a long season, we finally have the bracket set for the 2022 Division 2 Final Four. This year's format saw teams broken up into two pods, with the top two seeds from each advancing to the postseason. The teams who will compete this weekend are:
Archbishop Shaw Holy Cross Jesuit D2 St. Thomas More D2 On Saturday, April 30 Jesuit will host Archbishop Shaw in the first semi-final matchup at 1:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, Holy Cross will meet up with St Thomas More in the second semi-final. The winners of both of these matchups will meet Sunday at 12:30 for their chance at a Division 2 Championship. All games will take place at Joe Yenni Stadium in Metarie, LA. If you cannot make it live, follow along with all the action on www.vsnlouisiana.com At the Annual Meeting Saturday, the 2022 Division 1 All State teams were decided by coaches. That young stud is Max Kukuy
His stats: vs. Brother Martin: 5 goals (4 in the 4th quarter), 5 ground balls vs. C.E. Byrd: 5 goals, 4 ground balls vs. Captain Shreve: 1 goal, 1 assist, 7 ground balls From Head Coach Aaron Burns: "Against Brother Martin, Kukuy poured in 5 goals with 4 in a dominant 4th quarter that opened up what had been a tight game. Saturday, against a tough C.E. Byrd team coming off a big victory, Kukuy led the team by putting in another 5 goals in a huge win. To finish out the weekend, Kukuy was limited due to an illness but still found the net once and added an assist to his total in limited action. Though Newman had a balanced attack all week, Kukuy continually finished the plays for a Greenies team that needed to pick up these wins moving into the playoffs. In addition to his scoring, Kukuy has been a ground ball machine on the offensive side of the ball picking up a total of 16 ground balls in three games and being an integral contributor on the clear and the ride" For his performance, Max will receive a custom LHSLL Outstanding Athlete furnished by the League through our partnership with Primo Lacrosse.
